Meeting in Rotterdam
This year’s ESM Expert Network Meeting 2025 welcomed more than 130 researchers from the field for two days of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing. This year’s meeting of the Belgian-Dutch Network for ESM Research in Mental Health was hosted by the Rotterdam ESM Group.
Understanding behavior in real-world contexts
Over the past decades, advances in technology have transformed the study of human behavior. Researchers can now track emotions, thoughts, and actions in real-world settings using smartphone apps, wearables, and other digital tools. While such data offer unprecedented insights, collecting and analyzing them remains complex. The ESM Expert Network Meeting provided a platform for experts to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and foster collaborations essential for tackling these challenges.
From ideas to outcomes
The two-day program combined structured sessions, workshops, and collaborative activities designed to produce tangible results. For the first time, participants took part in three “paper-in-a-day” sessions, producing draft papers in just a day. Additional workshops and creative hackathons encouraged innovation and inspired new research directions for the ESM community
A growing and impactful community
The network continues to expand, uniting researchers interested in understanding human experience in everyday life. The ESM Meeting emphasized the importance of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and networking.
